Youth
Classes: We place special emphasis on teaching children and offer special
classes for them. We have found that children especially benefit from the study
of traditional karate because of the self- confidence they gain. Along
with enhanced self-esteem, the physical coordination, discipline, and
concentration they develop often carries over to other sports, academics, and
life endeavors. Children are also taught self-awareness and breakaway techniques
to enable them to avoid and evade would-be abductors. We encourage winning but
not at the expense of respect and dignity. Most of all, we present karate
training as a fun yet challenging experience. A "C" grade average is
mandatory and we adhere to the "no pass, no play" philosophy. School
comes first!
Teen & Adult Group instruction is available for men and
women aged 13 years and up. It offers many benefits - multiple
training partners, high energy dynamics, and development of strong spirit. Perhaps the most
important aspect is belonging to a group of like-minded
individuals who support us and urge us to become our absolute best. Adult classes focus on
strong technique, understanding of kata (forms) performance and application, physical
fitness, mental focus, and strong self-defense skills. Group training
promotes camaraderie and respect.

Our motto: "More rank means more
responsibility."
In the martial arts, great emphasis is placed
upon the Senior - Junior (Sempai - Kohai) mentoring relationship. Senior practitioners, similar to older brothers and sisters, are responsible for setting high standards
through personal example.
Special Trainings: (as scheduled)
Private instruction and special advanced
classes are also held at Sensei Pounds' home dojo off Sandy Road in Johnson City TX, by appointment or invitation only.
Email or call for information. Off-site training also available.
Private
Personal Training for Men and Women

For busy professionals, obtaining
a private personal trainer has become a preferred method of achieving individual goals - in
fitness as well as in the martial arts. We have seen an increase in the
number of clients who choose this method because it allows flexibility of scheduling
and the creation of a program tailored specifically for their
needs.
Personal
training sessions are available for those interested in one-on-one individualized
training, with concentration on fitness, agility, and overall
conditioning as well as the mastery of self-defense skills and a deeper
understanding of Goju-Ryu karate.
Personal
training sessions are designed to meet the needs and expectations of the
individual - whether it be for physical conditioning, competition skills, safety and awareness,
or in-depth study of kata (forms) or kumite (fighting).
Talk to us about your personal goals and we'll help design a karate/yoga/fitness
program to meet them.
Sessions
may be purchased individually and are scheduled "by appointment only". A discount is offered for five sessions
purchased as a block. Sessions available for all ages and
abilities.
Private
lessons are typically held at Sensei Pounds' home dojo in Johnson City, Texas or off-site by special arrangement
Please
contact Sensei Jim Pounds directly for more information.
